Quilts I’ve Made

Making quilts is one of the main motivations for my design journey. I stepped back from quilting when I decided to return to school for my formal design education. Before that time I emersed myself in the craft of quilt making. Seeing some of those quilts would be fun and exciting for my site visitors.

 

The photo quality could be better. I will likely rephotograph what I can in the future. However, many were made and given as unique gifts, so I can no longer access them.

A fun Children's wallhanging quilt with a Noah's Art theme. Teh Design combines both priced elements with applique elements. Has a unusual wavey water-like outter boarder.
UFO (unfinished Object) This quilt top is a "Piecemaker's Sampler" design from 1995 or six. Piecemakers quilts are samplers featuring a unique block each representing a month of the year. In this version those blocks alternate with a traditonal red, blue, and cream "Courthouse Steps" design block. After years this quilt top remains unquilted.
Four mini Veggie quilt each about the size of a potholder. First one is a carrot with green, the second is an Eggplant, third a radish, and the fourth is an onion, some have three dimmensional elements, all are paper-pieced with homespun country borders.
A twelve bock sampler quilt in pastel colors, surrounded by a pretty yellow floral print wth pastel flowers. This is a baby sized quilt.
A composition of five yellow and orange sunflower appliqués against a hand-dyed blue background with an inner frame (border) in a hand dyed dark green, and an outer border in a rich teal, blue and purpl batik fabric.
This small Teacher gift wallhanding features a centeral beehive and a cream print with little bees swarmign around. It is borderd by appliqued daisy and dandelion motifs. Above the hive on the border I appliquéd "Miss G.'s" and on the bottom border, "Busy Bees". I finished it off by incorporating decorative buttons int he shape of bees and ladybugs.
This quilt was inspired by a museum quilt from the Civil War Era. I made it using a variety of small-scale brown prints.
A handmade country-look quilt with a not-so-random scrappy look using warm homespun prints. The main center of the quilt are the basketweave block, surround by an innter border of half-log cabin blocks. To the outsid is a border of large applique star-shaped flowers and stems and leaves. While this is one of my personal favorite quilts the placement of the outer fowers on the border are far from perfect.

A twelve block. large wall hanging quilt in burdanies,and brown central motifs each surrounded with stylized stes with tear-drop shaped golden leaves against tone-on-tone wite background prints. The twelve blocks are surrounded by a dark green, with an occasional red leaf border on white. The quilt has a red binding. The appliqué is fused and stitched around the edges with decrotive machine stitching.
A hand appliqued exotic central floral design in fun and colorful prints and texture in vibrant greens, pinks an yellows against a vibrant hand-dyed green background with a border featuring an exotic tropical leaf print in matching colors.
My handmade applique rose album quilt. Roses are shades of white and beige with green foliage against black gorund with rick-rack (scalloped) inner borders and thow contrasting dark red outter borders with small scale beige and white floral motifs.
This small quilt with sacalloped edges is a color study in color theory.
A simple peiced quiilt really lets the gorgeous red and floral Japanese style prints shine. as a narrow contrasting purple iiiner border and an outter border shines with the featured print of with golden ribbons and purple flowers agianst a red ground.
Small wall hanging quilt with four tradiional Churn Dash blocks on point, in red and green Chirstmas prints alternated with solid black blocks. They are surronded by a border print of green holly leaves with red berries and a touch of gold outlines.
My handmade sawtooth Starburst quilt. Blocks are oriented so they sit like diamonds. Eadh starburst block is constructed from rich bright hand-dyed textured fabrics and contrasted with the blackest black solid.
This bight little scrappy wallhanging quilt uses scrapes from my Stary Night quilt (this quilt only uses the brights, not the black). It is the result of total improvizaitonal piecing. I worked it without a plan and just let it be what it wanted to become.
This quilt features a large white centered square eith am appliqued grapevine and bunches of grapes that I desgined. Framing that is a rich dark purple border. Beyond that are pieced blocks of old-timey county elments, an old lamp, coffee grind, jam jar, chicken, pineapple, tea pot, coffee pot, alternated between more traditonal star blocks. The primary colors are purple, green and white.
A miniture quitl featuing twelve identical heard blocks in home-spun style red prints. Four rows of three each, with black inner borders with solid red keystones, a black inner border and a solid red outter border, and a black binding. Quilted with a overlapping angluar heart design.
Pretty soft yellows contrast with lilac purple paint int small four squre blocks set on point and alternated with a solid pale yellow block in a checkerboard fashion. It has a green inner border and a outer scalloped border made up of pieced hearts int the same yellow and lilac prints as the insice blocks. This is a twin bed sized quilt.
Twin size Double Wedding Ring Quilt in soft yellow calicao print contrasted with soldi grreen, yellow, and rusty orange small-scale tone0on-tones.
My nine block tradtional sample quilt in burgundy, purple, green and beige. This is the result of the very first quilting class I ever took. The entire quilt is hand-pieced and quilted. No sewing machine was used in anyway int it's creation.
